Yes, SMD-70 was developed with environmental footprint considerations in mind. SMD-70 ships in 55 gallon (210 liter) drums. It is mixed at a 1:4 ratio with water. The water serves as a delivery agent, allowing the proprietary oil to be spread on the form via a high pressure sprayer, hand sprayer, or cloth. The water runs off, or evaporates, and the form release remains. Allowing for better/smoother concrete with less bug holes. Thereby avoiding touch up work.
Yes, unlike other petroleum derived form release products, SMD-70 has no VOC fumes. This means there is no loss of lubrication due to evaporation. SMD-70 has been used in tropical regions where the form was sprayed and left overnight for rebar attaching work, and there was no loss of lubrication. (As we all understand, form release should not be sprayed on rebar, and for this reason SMD-70 is the preferred form release for many global construction companies who are quality conscious)
In November 2021, we released some preliminary data which suggests that applying SMD-70 to poured concrete may be better than water bath curing methods which are damaging to the environment. SMD-70 is now being used in some of the largest dam projects in Asia due to its environmental benefits.
